In order to achieve this YOAC aim to:
We Provide a structured and friendly environment in which members can contribute to, and benefit from, the activities of a successful club.
We Provide a safe and welcoming introduction to athletics, particularly for the very young.
We Liaise with all local schools and youth groups and actively promote the benefits of athletics to young people.
Facilities
YOAC have always made good use of the council owned and managed track that was up-graded from a 6-lane cinder track to an 8-lane "all weather" track in 1984. With Lottery and Sport England funding the track was refurbished in 2002 including the installation of floodlighting.
YOAC runs a small friendly clubhouse that was opened in June 1988. The building was erected in memory of Joanna France (a former member), from funds raised by the Joanna France memorial trust. The clubhouse provides changing facilities including showers and a refreshment bar - for members, guests and visiting athlete.
Partners
YOAC and South Somerset District Council work together upon the development and promotion of athletics in the local community. This partnership is providing real optimism for the future of athletics in the area by supporting various initiatives such as Star:track athletic camps in the school holidays.
YOAC members also provide support to the Sports:hall athletics programme promoted by Somerset Active Sport Partnership. These take place at Yeovil College and Stanchester School.
